Dave,
I haven't seen one yet in my personal experience that didn't clear up at
least 95% by just working the rheostat (volume control) like crazy for a
minute. You can do it with the radio shut off, of course, then turn it
on and see how it does. Could be just the right price for a tight
budget. What happens is that, with lack of use, an extremely thin film
of oxidation forms on the rheostat coil; and by spinning the control
back and forth you wear that film back off so the contact is
re-established. Good luck.
