Brake fluid is an entirely different fluid than 'A' transmission fluid. Both for hydraulic applications I suppose you could conclude but still entirely different. Where Chrysler made the switch, I guess the question is whether a 1963 brake fluid system can be entirely cleaned out and retrofitted to Type 'A' and would this be a good change or an upgrade?
Rubber compounds used in hydraulic brake systems and intended for contact with DOT 3 brake fluid will swell and therefore be destroyed if introduced to transmission fluid.
Mixing DOT 3 fluid with Type 'A' or other I would think would make a mess.

Hi All,
I remember back a few months ago there was discussion about the correct fluid for the conv. top system.
My 1963 Chrysler Service Manual - Use Heavy Duty Brake Fluid
My 1964 Chrysler Service Manual - Use Type A Transmission Fluid
I have been using brake fluid in my '63 300 Conv, but I wonder if someone at Chrysler determined that transmission fluid was a better fluid and, if so, why?
I am pretty sure they are the same pump for a few years.
Any ideas?
