Tony and All:
The proper color of the 300F (and all 300s) when new was natural gray cast iron.  Of course, they didn't stay that way too long,---as Dave implied!  Eastwood makes a  product especially for exhaust manifolds, and others do as well.  I had mine done by a small outfit in S. Georgia.  It was a "ceramic" coating process, as I recall, but in the proper color.  Has lasted well. (10+ years).  Unfortunately, I just looked thru all my receipts, and could not find the name of the company.  If I do ever find it, I will post it on the list server.
