[Chrysler300] steering wheel removal

I'm getting ready to take my steering wheel off my 1962 300 H and sport convertible. I have the (3) screws out. I believe the nut is a (1") nut. 

question 1: Which way does the nut turn off?
question 2: How do you hold the steering wheel from turning?

I don't want to mess up the one steering more than it is now.
