Re: [Chrysler300] tranny pan gskt dry or w/sealant??

I use a light schmear of fresh wheel bearing grease on the mating surface of the pan itself, just enough to hold the gasket in place to it during assembly. It doesn't act as a sealant, just an aid to assembly when you're under the car. Never had a problem doing so.

I'm sure many careful folks have used sealant over the years without a problem, but an ol' tranny guy warned me years ago about using a sealant on the pan gasket. Any lump of dried sealant getting into the transmission might cause havoc later on, and won't dissolve and dissipate like a minuscule amount of new grease will.
