I'm not sure too many Letter car guys, including myself would want to hear
this. But when I look at the facts nearly ALL Chrysler performance testing
and factory fitment of dual quad intakes, the hemi engine, solid roller
camshafts, high flow air filters and exhausts, disc brakes, HD Imperial
suspension, vented wheels, HD Powerflight trans were ALL about WELL before
the 300 came into production.

The only major things I can think of that the Lettercar brought to the
performance table were an improvement in body style/aerodynamics/cosmetics,
torsion bars in'57,the TF trans in late '56 and later on ram-induction.
Other than that it was all done pre- '55.

When you look at it like this, a heck of a lot was achieved from'51 thru
'54 and in '55 thru '61....well not a lot of NEW performance ideas came
about really. I suppose the main thing they achieved with the Lettercar was
to make that performance more accessible to the public.

Sorry to burst the bubble on the Lettercar being 1st in performance.

Fires screen up, let me have it.

Thanks for pointing it out. The racing success of early hemis certainly
gave birth to the idea creation of the 1955 C-300 and subsequent letter
cars. And the C-300 begat the 300B, and the 300B begat the 300C, etc.

Wayne Graefon:

I just ran across this '54 Chrysler Newport with photos of its participation
in the 2001 Carrera Pan America race.

I wanted to make sure you saw it. It might be of interest to others as
well.
