Hi Calrton,

I been thinkin' about all your emails encouragin' me to come to  
Wisconsin to swim in May.
Well, I got a motel reservation for me and my grandfather Jim  
Bowditch.  We got big plans to travel in the L.  I haven't registered  
with Gloria yet, but she'll get over it!  We are leavin' on Memorial  
Day, in hopes of bein' there Wed. or Thurs.  But I can't wrap myself  
around the idea of swimmin' on June 1 in Wisconsin.

You see; I did that, only in Penobscot Bay, Maine on June 4.  They  
tell me the water was 50. I dunno.  I swam so da-n fast that I got  
out soon as I could, and then my clothes--wet as they were--made me  
cold.  I don't think I want to go swimmin' anywhere north of  
someplace far south before August.. So I'm comin' to Wisconsin, but  
not to swim.  I'm lookin' forward to it, 'cause I never been there  
before.

I'm also a little worried:  They say that in Madison you got record  
snowfall--somethin' like 6' feet.  Eagle River is far north of  
Madison--at least the woman at McFeely's Hardware told me so.  Stands  
to reason that far north of Madison, there's more snow.  Now we got  
almost 8'  in Maine, but we ain't braggin'.  We're hopeful--hopeful,  
mind you (not certain) that it will be gone by Memorial Day.  We're  
also hopeful that the frost heaves and black flies will be settled  
down by then too.  But we're far from certain about any of this.  You  
seem to be awfully certain that  everything's gonna' be just perfect  
in Wisconsin the end of May, beginning of June.  I expect you're  
right; anyone who invites me to Wisconsin wearin' a slice of cheese  
on his head is clearly honest and forthright!

I'm comin' and like you I'm hopeful.   I think I'll take a chance,  
and leave the long-johns and tire chains at home.  I'm also gonna'  
leave my swim suit home, 'cause no matter what you say, I'm not goin'  
swimmin' in Wisconsin in May or June.  But I expect I will have a  
good time, and I'm lookin' forward to it.
