George,
I would recommend going with the KYB shocks.  I have a '57 Saratoga  sedan, 
not exactly a performance model, so I had a local tire shop install  standard 
shocks a few years ago.  I regretted it the whole time they were  on, because 
the front end just seemed to "float" along, up and down.
 
Last year I installed KYB shocks on the front end, and it made a world of  
difference!  Smooth, steady ride, with no bobbing, and far from  harsh.
 
It was kind of a bitch installing them, though.  The lower mounts are  about 
1/8" too wide, but about 15 minutes on a bench grinder takes care of  that.  
The most problem was the retaining straps they put on because of the  gas 
charge.  You must clip them off before installing because the top goes  into the 
shock tower.  You simply must "Horse" them up after the pistons  extend, 
requiring you to overcome the gas charge.  Well worth the  trouble!
 
As you may recall, one of the selling points of the cars originally were  
"Oriflow"  shocks, that had variable orifii.  No longer made, but KYB  works just 
fine!
