Ok after having lived with a 57 New Yorker back in 69 which lead
me to getting my 300-C in 70, I do believe that NO REAR AMP for
radios was even thought of back then, Starting in 57 I think the
radio manufacturer started using a TRANSISTOR as the final amp
part of the radio. It was strong enough to drive a single front
speaker and a single rear speaker.
Maybe you are seeing something that was not originally there but
drilled or added later.
In the 60's for a while reverb units were popular add-ons by
younger drivers looking for a bit more realism to the sounds
