[Chrysler300] VIN's vs S/N's

Wayne has responded that he is only keeping data on 1957 Chrysler 300-C's.
It is apparent that VIN's & S/N's will vary all over the map. If we had a
list of all those relationships for all years, I don't think we would be any
smarter--so from my perspective, I suggest we just drop it as a project.

Records of the engine number originally shipped with each chassis are
available from Gil Cunningham. I think I was told that a replacement engine
with a 300 S/N from the same year would not be penalized by our judges.
These engines are good, but anything that might require engine replacement
can, does and has happened.

C-300'ly,
Rich Barber

The highest numerical difference between 300C VIN numbers and engine
numbers amongst those for which I have both numbers is 96. Of course this
occurs towards the end of the production year. Again, of the few I have,
this happens to be our own Rob Kern's C with VIN 3216 and engine 3312. There
are several other candidates but I don't have the engine number.

Anyone that would like to send me their original engine number from
production records is welcome to do so and I'll add it to the data base. If
you are sending me a number and it is NOT the original engine to the
chassis, please state so.

  Wayne
