Hi all, I worked in the Radio Lab at Chrysler Highland Park in 1960-61. I can't give you any background on the Hi-Way HiFi, but I was there for the introduction of the RCA unit. The RCA unit (45rpm with inverted spindle which held 10 records) was offered through the Desoto/Plymouth Dealers for the 1960 model year only. They had no corporate identification except for the RCA logo on the front and a paper sticker on the back with a serial number and model AP-1. RCA may have marketed them through the dealer system after that and I think some of the company radios were supplied with auxiliary sockets My Chrysler Imperial Service Manual (and Desoto) for 1960 has it listed with seven pages of service instructions. I can not say that it was only offered as a dealer install, they are highlighted in a Desoto brochure for 1960.
Anyway, 300s forever, Ron Gendjar, 300F, Livonia Mi
