[Chrysler300] Tires Tires Tires-Round and round we go

Don't you think the 5-year warning is part lawsuit-induced CMA, part
marketing and a very tiny part technology that may or may not apply to any
particular tire? Certainly rubber compounds change over time and these
changes are impacted by time exposed to sunlight, ozone, heat and everything
else in the environment. But it is the cords that hold the tire together.
If they are broken or deteriorated by chemical change, all bets are
off--regardless of mileage.
I seem to recall that some club member is still running an original set of
8.00x15 Goodyear BlueStreaks on an early lettercar.
No warranty expressed or implied here.

Hi All:
And I was actually thinking about taking the "F" for a little drive today!
How silly of me! Sorry, but I don't have any car (other than our '06 PT)
that has tires newer than 5 years old. Oh, just remembered---the "F" does
have
bias old tires, so maybe I get a couple "safety points" for that. The "H"
is in even worse shape. "Old" radial tires on original rims! Better keep
BOTH these babys in the garage.

anyway.)

Those that get Old Cars weekly may have notice the reader question
regarding
the safety of old tires and when to discard. Answer from the tire
manufacturers is 5 yrs regardless of mileage. The theory is that the
vulcanization
process is thought to continue beyond the mold resulting in chemical
changes in
the rubber such as hardening and brittleness making them prone to
cracking.
