Hi John and All:
PN 1843 229 is a "Gasket and Seal Package--front and rear clutch and input
shaft". It is listed for all cars w/Torqueflite 1957-58, plus the few 1956
models so equipped. It also appears in the 1959 thru 1961 parts books.
I will leave it up to the "Cast Iron TF Gurus" to comment on its ability to
help with your problem.

Hi all you cast iron TF gurus out there.
I was at a swap meet yesterday and came across an unopened large square
package/envelope labeled 1843229 gasket package.
Inside was a large piece of cardboard to protect what appears to be a cork
pan gasket for a cast iron torqueflite transmission, along with a bunch of
'soft' rubber type o-rings and seals, and a bunch of snap rings of various
diameters.
Anybody care to venture a guess as to what this is?
I know there's been a lot of talk lately regarding TF's that leak when left
sitting, and my G is no exception. I'm wondering if some of these do-dads in
this package could help to stop my leaks.
It's bone dry under my car as long as it's driving. The problem occurs when
it sits for more than a week.
I hate to even think about winter storage before Labor Day weekend, but it
would be nice to put the car away this winter and not see a pint and a half of
tranny fluid in the pan beneath the car next spring.
I don't have access to a lift, and driving the car up on ramps under the
front tires and leaving it that way for a few days doesn't simulate the long
term level parking that causes the leak.
I may bite the bullet and go to my local tranny shop (I've used them in the
past with good results) with this bag of goodies and just tell them to 'stop
the leak' and to feel free to use any of the stuff in the package.
The person selling this item said that they might have more at home, and
would check before next months swap meet.
Let me know if anyone is interested if they have any more of these.
I could lay out all the pieces and take a photo if anyone wants/needs one to
help identify this kit.
John
