> Fellow 300ers.......My speedometer is making a scritchy sound and I am sure > it is in the gears or moving parts of the speedometer itself. What should I > use for a lube.....WD-40? Silicone spray? Graphite lube as used in locks? Does your speedo head have an oil wick on the housing where the speedo cable attaches? With the head out, very light sewing machine oil could be sparingly applied over a period of days. Too much lube (here or in the cable) will cause problems. My attempts to quiet speedometers on my own have seen only short lived success. So, my best solution has been to put the job in the hands of a tech that has the experience and equipment to work with an antique unit to include cleaning, detailing and calibration.
