[Chrysler300] Chrysler300's on Trailers

I bought a two-axle flat-bed trailer and a Durango to pull it in order to
take both car and spouse to far-away meets and shows in comfort while
holding down the miles on the 1955 C-300. I also bought a set of tire
covers at my RV Supply Store to protect the tires against UV deterioration.
The hemi Durango with 3.92 cogs, five-speed tranny with tow/haul mode does a
great job of towing and even fits in my garage.

I feel this package works well for us, helps preserve the precious relic(s),
allows us to attend more shows and enjoy the best of the varying worlds of
car shows, car nuts, touring in air-conditioned comfort, driving to closer
shows and showing and sharing the old car with many who have never seen one.

I have elected to go along with Chrysler and not add air conditioning, disc
brakes, radial tires, cruise control, CD player, outside rear-view mirrors
or backup lights to the '55. Even Chrysler woke up and added many of these
creature comforts to the options list by 1956.

We plan to tow the car from CA to IA in Sept. for my 50th high-school
reunion, then down to Lawton for the meet. This just wouldn't happen if we
were to drive the '55. I am getting more and more interested in acquiring a
newer 300, perhaps a 1962-64 convertible with air, that we could comfortably
take longer tours in. We did own a nice '63 Newport 4-dr hardtop in the
mid-60's and loved that car--but its hang-on Mark IV air conditioner didn't
quite cut it in Omaha summer car-pool duty like factory air.

The trailer is parked elsewhere, but I do have its spare tire here and it
has interesting wording on it:

Carlisle Sport Trail
ST205/75 D15 Replaces F78-15ST Trailer Use Only
Load Range C 1820# @ 50 psi; DOT OJ UL FQ3
Do not inflate over 32 psi, cold
Tread-4-ply nylon
No indication of country of manufacture.

Seems to be very marginally rated. Car and trailer will run about 6500#.

Love the part about not inflating to rating pressure!

This thread has been informative and I will be sure to replace the spare
quickly if I ever have a flat.

Let's continue to be tolerant of the drivers and owners of trailed and
driven cars.

C-300'ly,
Rich Barber

Subject: [Chrysler300] Trailer tires

People ALWAYS ask me "Why do you have TWO spare tires on the front of your
trailer"? I have never blown one on my tandom trailer, (Probabaly because I

have two spares) but have seen many "Poor Souls" on the side of the road
wishing
they had at least one spare. If this thread teaches anyone anything, it
should be that no matter how good a tire you run, you should carry at least
one
spare. Don't forget how long our trailers sit out in the sun before we
take
off. Ted, Ocala, FL
