[Chrysler300] Paint treatment

Giving your car's paint a good protection treatment is a tedious job.  This info was given to me by a professional show car detailer.

1.  Remove old wax buildup; either a naphtha based wax and grease remover, or a strong detergent cleaner with a thorough water rinse. [Dawn dishwashing detergent works]

2.  Apply a mild cleaner, such a Mequiar's  # 9, or equivalent.  Unless your paint is badly oxidized or scratched, don't use rubbing compound.  It is too aggressive, and will need additional polishing.

3.  Apply a liquid sealer.  This is different than a wax.  It seals the pores, and keeps things like airborne contaminants from penetrating the finish.   [bug splatters, acid rain, industrial smoke, fumes, etc.]  It will last up to one year depending on the harshness of the environment.

4.  Finish off with a carnauba paste wax for a deep shine.  Waxes do not protect the paint very well; they are mostly for shine and water repellant, and only last 3-6 months, depending upon how often you wash your car.

5.  He recommended using task specific products.  The "one step" cleaner, sealer, wax all in one bottle are compromises, and only do a marginal job, but they are quick and easy.

6.  It is a lot of extra work, but my cars have looked great since using this process.  I use a rotary buffer and pads for the cleaners, and an orbital for the sealer and wax.
