I supported the body of my C with 4x4 posts about 5 feet long from below the rocker panels, and lifted the car body with a set of jacks designed for picking up a camper off the back of a pick up truck.  It allows the frame to roll right out from under the body, just like the pick up can drive out from under the camper.  I got the camper jacks from JC Whitney for under $200.
My car had solid rockers and floors, and I had already removed the two doors, front clip, and trunk lid, so it didn't weigh much.

Question for those who have taken a 57 or 58 hardtop body off of the frame.. 
Did you weld cross braces into the body to prevent any body stress.  It looks 
like the potential for bending could bend the windshield pillars 
forward...Just a concern.   Also awhile back someone was making body mounts... Help with 
who that was would be appreciated.
