both heater hoses on the left side of the heater (under the hood) are 
pretty hot.

but the return hose on the right side is just warm.

does that mean water is not going thru the heater at full force?

does the slider knob below the heater buttons turn the water flow to 
the heater off and on?  if not, what does it do?

the heater buttons seem to be opening and closing doors etc.  i don't 
know if they are opening and closing
the right doors, but they are working things.
