Your dilemma is perplexing  to say the least. Look at 2 more things --  
remove the gas cap after you try to start and see if you hear air rushing into  the 
tank -- you may not have a vented cap. Then you may have a collapsed filter  
on the gas tank pick up. If it is collapsed you will not get any gas. This  
happened to me many years ago.
