In the olden days all fuel tanks had a drain plug,or a pep-cock in the bottom.Handy for draining of the water,or pulling off a little gas for brushing your teeth ect. Most cars were put up for the winter. And you just left it open to let any moisture drain out.Filler cap removed and covered with cheese cloth. The bean counters saved the nickle by getting rid of it.The best solution is to put one in.Best way is to remove tank,it can be done in the car.NOT RECOMENDED.I remove the sending unit and purge with a shop vac through the filler (shop vac on blow.) Next 3or4 inches of water in the low side and a chunk of dry-ice.
This fills the tank with CO2 .Punch your hole .And stretch the metal down.Silver solder a boss ,and install plug.Am not telling you to do it yourself .Its not for the faint of hart .Only stating how it is done.Jim McMullan 300 F
