Chrysler Three Hundred Club, International Members:
A CTHCI member recently advised me of the e-mail address of the fellow
that sells kits for overhauling the master cylinder/power brake booster
system on the 1955 Chrysler 300. I asked him for information and
pricing on the kit and his response is shown below.
Kit includes large diaphragm, secondary cup, primary cup seal, primary
cup, reaction cup, metering hole seal.
Shop manual explains repair.
$150.00, ppd.

This will be my next project and I plan to photograph the steps. The
parts list does not include all soft parts in the system, but hopefully
does include the parts most likely to deteriorate. The shop manual does
show all the parts mentioned and provides several pages of detailed
instructions for disassembly and reassembly.
Does anyone have the special tool used to align the brake shoes on a
1955 that I could beg, borrow, buy, steal or rent? My new brakes do
stop the car, but I'd like to go through the process of proper shoe
alignment before I head up into the Sierras this August. I have a
machinist friend that may be able to copy or emulate the tool if I can
get my hands on one for a while. I'm going to go through the booster as
it seems to take excessive pedal force to achieve desired deceleration.
I took my 1955 C-300 to the Good Guys Spring Get-Together in nearby
Pleasanton today (in the rain!) and was accepted for the inside show--in
the "Young California (!) Building (lucky break with several days of
rain projected). My car is the only authentic MoPar in the building ,
although there is a real nice '39 Mayflower four-door nearby (with a
blown Chev 350!). I received several nice comments from fellow car
guys, including an appraiser/transporter. The appraiser had just
delivered a Tango Red 1955 that had sold for about $38K to Connecticut
and said my car was nicer. That was good to hear. I hope to see fellow
CTHCI members Jett, Jasinski & Schaaf and other bay area members at the
show.
I had a nice 1955 C-300 taillight lens crushed by FedEx while in
transport to me and am told I will finally get a nice settlement. I
still need a nice used lens. Anyone have an extra for sale? Price,
postpaid? Needs to be shipped in a stiff box, wrapped in bubble wrap and
surrounded by foam peanuts.
Thanks to all that provided helpful input for sourcing rear axle shims
for my brake and wheel bearing job. They came in pricey, but they did
come in.
Final questions: Is the vacuum advance to be disconnected (and plugged)
when setting timing on the 1955 C-300 331 hemi? Does a varying dwell
indicate worn distributor bearing or some other problem?
