Check fluid level in the master cylinder. "Spongy" feeling brakes usually mean that you're compressing air in the master cylinder rather than pushing fluid through the lines. Sometimes, if you're lucky, the air bubbles will come out through the bleed hole by themselves if you refill the reservoir and jiggle the brake pedal.
