The problem with a Professional (and I was one) is that it all gets routine.
Too many years ago, when we installed a new Ammco Brake lathe, the Rep
demo'ed it to us. He set it up and showed all the proper checks and so
forth, and then cut the drum. Perfect, any way you measured it. He then took
a pack of ciggerettes out of his pocket. He tore a strip of the celephane
wrapper and loosened the lock nut on the lathe. He put the ultra thin strip
between the cone and the headstock of the lathe. When he started to recut
the drum, it cut noticeably crooked. So, that little bit can throw it off
and the only way to get it right is to make sure every part is clean, and
it's on straight to start with.
