K console alum

Here's a question for K people:

I have noticed two styles of aluminum pieces on the consoles. I refer to the
piece around the vacuum gage extending down to the console glove box and to
the piece at the console rear around the cigar lighter.

I have two consoles where both of those pieces have a shiny smooth finish.

I have two others where those pieces have a herringbone finish. Again, the
front matches the back piece.

These happen to be Ks, not sports, although I believe consoles would swap
between the two.

Any thoughts?
