300L Door Panels

One of the last things I have left to do on the restoration of my L is the aluminium trim piece on the door panels. Mine are scratched and oxidized. It appears that they were originally brushed aluminium, perhaps with a clear coat on top. Can anyone relate their experience restoring these pieces or suggest how to go about it?
