Hello, All: For those of you doing 300F,G restos, this may be of interest. I recently painted my 300F rams with the NAPA (Martin Senour) #635 engine paint. I was under the impression this was a direct replacement for the earlier M-S #7956, Buick Red which we have long known to be a close match to the Chrysler Ram Red. It is NOT! I was quite surprised when I compared my paint job to the Chrysler master color plate. The correct color is much more orange appearing than the M-S # 635. I did have two old cans of #7956, but they did not (after 20+ years!) have enough propellant pressure to properly atomize the spray. I was able to determine, however, that the #7956 color was still acceptably close to the Chrysler master. I, of course, contacted Martin Senour, who referred me to Sherwin Williams. They were most helpful, and even sent me a can of their Krylon #2114 Buick red. Alas! It was the same deep red as the NAPA material. Since I had run out of choices, I just poked a hole in one of my old Martin Senour cans and sprayed the rams with my airbrush. However, that solution doesn't help any of you. I was hoping I would have an answer, but at present, I do not. Perhaps someone can help. I just wanted to let those of you who are interested in the correct color for the rams know the score. Perhaps one of you who is a member of the Buick club could inquire as to what they are now using. I am no longer a member, or would have asked, myself. I would think there would be some Buick 430, 455(?) engine restorers very unhappy with the so-called new Buick red. It may be OK to use standard (non-engine specific) paint on the rams. I don't know. Perhaps a member has done that. If so, let us know the results. It does seem like the rams would get a little warm at the carb heat area. On a semi-positive note, I was able to get some cans of the Plasticote #210 Chrysler "green" for our 1962 and up engines from my local Carquest store, but they did confirm it was no longer being made. The cans I got were VERY dusty! Well, just wanted y'all to know. Sorry for no good solution. 300ly, Gil [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
