Dave Schwandt here, '58 manual says .013-.018". '60, '61 are the same also. HOWEVER the '63 manual states that (quote PPG 3-4) " The axle shaft preferred end play is .013 to .018 inch, however, up to .023 inch is permissible. The end play is necessary because as much as .012" end play may be taken up after the operating temperatures are reached during normal operation. The loss of end play occurs because the axle shafts expand (lengthwise) more than the axle housing as the temps increase. LESS THAN .013 INCH END PLAY CAN RESULT IN A PRELOADED BEARING, UNDER THESE CONDITIONS, CAUSING SHORTER BEARING LIFE." ( my emphasis) '64 states basically the same thing and goes into more detail in explaining how to achieve this play (.013-.023). Just for the heck of it I looked in 2 other manuals....'56, which lists the 300-B on the cover as being included says ".003-.008 and '56 Dodge is the same, .003-.008" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Owen & Jo Grigg" <ram300@xxxx> To: "David Zakarian" <arshog@xxxx>; "Chrysler Club" <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "Gary Nelson" <Gary@xxxx> Sent: Friday, July 19, 2002 1:35 AM Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] axel end play on 300C
