Paul,
Did the kid hook up the throttle linkage? running a torquflite with no 
throttle linkage or misadjusted throttle/shift linkage will kill it faster 
than anything.
Also, if you loose one of the alignment dowls between the engine & trans 
the pump will go out & trash the rest of things.
