Re: [Chrysler300] Vintage Tires in Court

I had many months ago, posted my opinion of Coker tires and suggested that
those looking for Widewidewalls to at least take a look at Diamondback
Classics. I did catch some catcalls for this from some members. Their tires
are contemporary radials with a whitewall affixed(vulcanized) to it. I
suspect that they are probably at least S rated. Check with them on this. A
P rated tire should not even be eligible or allowed to mount on any Chrysler
300 given current DOT regulations and the state of tire art today.

Currently many auto manufacturers electronically limit the top speed of
certain performance automobiles so that they will not be able to exceed the
DOT rating of the tire that the manufacturer chooses to mount on the car.

Sounds sane to me.

I hade a conversation witrh Coker Tire today regarding the tire that sort of
disassembled on my way to Maine, and I found out something which was a bit
disturbing, that being that Coker's tires are all "P" rated, meaning they
are
rated at 93 mph. Now granted, most of us do not spend a lot of time in
excess of
93 mph, but I would feel a bit more secure with at least an "S" rating,
which
would put it at 113 mph. I suggested to the guy that the tires for these
big
old brutes should probably be rated higher, even if it added another $10.00
to the price.

Hope you all got home from the meet on your 93 mph rated tires, without
incident.

Pete Fitch
