Many people don't realize that those "electric" clocks in our vintage 300s are actually wind-up clocks.  They just get wound about every three minutes by an electromagnet.  When the clock is wound, it runs until it winds down, at which time the arm with the contact point contacts the electrical connection and....zip, it winds it again for another three minute run.  (Or as John Hertog put it, Tchunk.)  Except for perhaps some lubrication, the reason the clocks stop running is that the contacts become worn, or oxidized, etc. and just don't give that little electric jolt to the magnet which winds the clock.  Often just a good cleaning and careful filing of the points gets the clock running well again.  Often the most difficult part of the repair is getting the clock out of the dash.  

This is assuming the clock is in otherwise good working condition.  If it came from parts car and has all kinds of corrosion, the clock could have a multitude of problems.

  Can't help but put in my two seconds' worth...  I usually have no problems
  with modifications, that improve safety and handling...  but, when it comes
  to the clocks in our cars, I cannot and will not have them converted to
  Quartz.

  Ever since I was 18  or so, and bought my first 300, I can remember that
  distinctive sound of the clock "rearming" itself ...  it's quite unique,
  and, to me, part of the "300" experience.  It's  like "  Tchunk - tic -
  tic - tic .........  Tchunk - tic - tic - tic "

  Jeff Carter restored a few clocks for me over the months...  they have
  always kept good time... and they all make that wonderful sound...  wouldn't
  have it any other way !
