[Chrysler300] Powerflite rear bearing

my c-300 started to make noise shortly after I got it on the road. Normal aceleration was ok but it made a repetitve clanging sound when I acelerated to 15 or 20 m.p.h. and let off the gas. I thought a u-joint was bad. When I went to take it out yesterday, it would move forward, but in reverse it stop after moving only a foot and it felt like I threw it in park (if it had one). I took off the drive shaft and hand brake drum and everything seems to be in order. With the drum off, the output shaft wiggles a lot more than I like but I don't know if this is normal or not. I turned the shaft clockwise and it was smooth. When I turned it the other way, the nut backed out. If I can locate another nut I can jam the threads to see how it feels counter clockwise. I'm thinking the output bearing is bad. Just don't know. Any help would be welcome. Thanks, John Peabody
