Mike, and other club members, 1. I just have to add my two cents worth here. 2. I had the engine rebuilt in one of my 64 300-K's about 5 years ago. The center right hand plug soon came out under driving conditions (was that an experience). The replacement soon followed after being installed by a knowledgeable Chrysler mechanic. Then followed an expandable rubber type which also came out. Finally the knowledgeable Chrysler mechanic gave himself a self induced concussion as it dawned on him--he knew Chrysler sometimes produced oversized "frost plug bores" and fitted oversized plugs at the factory. He checked, had a slightly oversized plug in stock and installed it. It is still there. 3. Moral of the story is that the standard plugs don't always work. They did in all but one of the bores in the water jacket of the motor--but not that one. To may knowledge, they are all sealed in with Permatex as they are seated to preclude possible leakage, etc. Personally I have never installed any--just relating what I ran into and the solution. Use a deep socket slightly smaller than the od of the plug and tap it in place, then you can "set" it with a blunt ended tool and a hammer. If it was up to me I would look around for a flanged style plug, they seem to hold a bit better. Freeze plugs are available in 1/64th increments, it may be worth your time to check to make sure the guy at the parts counter gave you the right size before you reinstall it.
