[Chrysler300] club magazine and dollar medallions



I would like to thank the Club for apparently re-ordering the Dollar 
Medallions that go on 300Cs and others - I was a bit critical of the Club 
for not warning they were low on these before they were sold out, and so 
this fixes that - thank you.

Well done also the Club (Magazine) including a report on the new DCX 
Chrysler 300.  I have been a critic of DCX deciding the use the 300C name 
for this car, feeling it was an wasted opportunity to save the name for 
something more significant.  I know this may not have sat well with some 
readers, whilst others' replies to me applauded the view I raised.

>From the distance of Australia, it has been sad that America has seemingly 
let go the stranglehold it had on building leading automobiles - in effect 
America led the world in terms of mass produced cars from the twenties into 
the 60s, but them seemingly became more accountant driven, than consumer 
driven. As a young boy I cut out the late 50s Saturday Evening Post coloured 
car adverts, still have them in scrapbooks - don't have anything post early 
70s.

New countries such as Japan and Korea built cars that from boring beginnings 
became more fun to drive, delivered handling and feel that took advantage of 
radials and disc brakes, whilst America seemed to discover ever more 
plastic, and low technology drivetrains. (An example of a car everyone 
should hate, having nothing going for it, would be Datsun's early 70s 240K 
six cylinder sedan - only 2.4 litres, yet stock standard did 120 mph in 
aussie roadtests, and had rally winning irs, delivers 35 mpg at 70 mph 
cruise, was pleasant to drive, even fun if pushed round corners.

Then over the weekend I drove a mid 80s 735i BMW - this is a type of driving 
dynamic America, Chrysler, should/could have been building, not what an 
80s/90s Cadillac for example became - a real fall from 50/60s iconic 
status/technology?

And so (finally) now come to 20 years later, and the new 300C is maybe just 
that.  Sounds a good car, pity about the bulldozer front, might have looked 
ok/better, with more slope on the front.  Whatever.
The article's author seemingly feels it a shame the C designation was used.  
And I still stand by my feeling that the 300 name was perhaps better if not 
used on all, it a pity this sedan did not result instead in a later, new 
more worthy, 300.

But congratulations to the Club for the new 300 coverage - and do not take 
any comment re the US today, in the 70s to now, the wrong way - we here in 
Australia do not have a lot to feel proud about, things we could have done a 
lot better.  And re the US, I take as a really positive sign that the new 
Mustang seems a stunning success re the way it (seemingly from photos seen 
here) has re-birthed original styling elements in a V8 rear drive.  Chrysler 
under Mercedes are the new kids on the block, maybe if they think enough of 
you will get out of F100s and SUVs, they will build you really world leading 
US cars again, that serve it up to Europe and the Japs.  A true 300 of the 
future.

enough said, get in a real (old?!) 300 and put a smile on your face, we 
could all be dead a long time, can't take them with uis.
autumn leaves starting to turn, brilliant mid 70s weather over easter,
