I'm also in under dave.stragand@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' Thanks! -Dave +++++++++++++++++ You'll find this hard to believe: Last September I noticed the metal roof on my garage at home was rusting and the paint peeling, so I called the manufacturer, Morton Bldg. They sent an inspector. The decision was to replace the roof under warranty, but since winter was coming, this wouldn't be done until April or May. Fine by me. We agreed they would call me in advance so I could remove the garage contents to avoid any damage during the removal and installation. We specifically discussed that my car collection was housed in that garage. Tuesday 03/16/04 I happened to stop home for the mail about 11:00 AM since a snow storm was predicted and getting the mail early meant one less thing to do later. As I drove up the street past my yard, I see there is no roof on my garage. Just wood rafters. Inside that roofless garage sits the red L 4 speed, the 69 Imperial, the restored red H, and the black H. Off to one side stands a crew from Morton, getting ready to install the new roof. I stop, go to the garage, look inside and see the cars are covered with debris and dirt and crap from the removal of the roof. Wood splinters, pine needles, plastic pieces from the ridge vent, and a few nails. Some of the nails were on the floor, some were sitting on the car hoods. I'm hot. I'm not nice. I'm not diplomatic. And neither is the crew from Morton. These guys are not supposed to be here. When I approved the roof replacement with the home office I was specific about my car collection being housed in that garage and we all agreed I would remove contents before the roof was removed just to prevent this situation. I show the debris on the cars to these Morton guys and they don't give a crap. They don't care about the debris on the cars or that no one called to schedule the roof work -- "So what you want us to do? You want us to NOT put the new roof on? We can do that." About that time it started to snow. I had no choice but to let them install the roof on the hope and prayer that they have most or all the damage that they can do. To see some of my best and favorite cars covered with debris and it is starting to snow -- it was all I could do to just walk away. Back at work I called the main Morton location in Illinois. They don't know anything about work being done on the garage....but they'll take my word for it; that there is no roof on my garage. Well lah tee dah, they don't show any more concern than their crew. I informed them they would be held responsible for any damage to the contents. Them: "Gee, sorry about that but we're not responsible for contents. You should have removed the contents." Me: "And I would have had if anyone had called me." Them: "Well we can't un-do what has been done. Send us pictures." Me: "Pictures? And then what?" Them: "Then we'll talk about it." I don't know how this will turn out. Maybe I will get a hold of the right person at Morton and they will make it right. Maybe not, I don't know. I do know I have 8 garages at present. Two are Morton's. 6 are not. When garage #9 goes up, I know it will not be a Morton. R
