Hi group, Curiosity has the best of me. Has anyone ever heard of a 300 "deluxe"? I'm thinking this emblem on eBay is for a 60's Chevy II not a Chrysler, but the numbers look to be the same style used by Chrysler. Any insight amongst the braintrust??

Nope - not me - I'm a G guy all the way. It is getting so that everyone has
an F convert these days - I just thought that Mr. 300-G looking for F parts
was a bit of contradiction in terms. Of course, if anyone has a pair of F side

Let's stop this one before we get everybody worked up.
The answer is "NO!"
This straight from Chrysler:
"Chrysler 300C and Dodge Magnum RT will be equipped
with the first five-speed automatic transmission ever
offered in a Chrysler Group passenger car...
This five-speed automatic transmission is standard
equipment with the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine on the
rear-wheel drive 2005 Chrysler 300C and Dodge Magnum
RT. It is a DaimlerChrysler transmission built at the
Indiana Transmission Plant II in Kokomo, Indiana... "

But they DO have a 5 speed stick somewhere, because it is the ONLY
transmission you can get in the V-10 equipped truck. Since they have it, I would
imagine that they will use it elsewhere eventually.

Sorry, Pete. The V-10 powered Ram SRT-10 has a SIX
speed manual, just like the Viper. Doesn't mean it'll
bolt to a 5.7 Hemi Magnum. They have a manual for the
HEMI in a 3/4 truck, but why would Chrysler spend big
bucks on a super high-tech automatic for their luxury
car and then offer a truck transmission? I'd be 1961
all over again with a taxicab transmission in a 300G.
Americans hardly buy any manuals anymore, anyway. I'd
be shocked if the new 300 ever got one.
This all proves "we" the original 300 enthusuasts,
will never be happy with a new Chrysler. You guys
want fins. Yep, the old 300's had 'em... unless you
have a 300L. What percentage of letter cars had a
manual transmission anyway? Not a big part of the 300
experience for most people.
Love,
Andy

The real story of that 5 speed automatic is that it is identical to the
transmission used in the Mercedes E class. In fact the entire drive train, brakes
and steering column are right out of the E-Class.
Don't believe me, then go test drive an E-Class and then a 300 C Hemi.
Electric tilt and telescopic steering and the smoothest transmission we have ever
seen in a Chrysler. Oh, and I forgot to mention, the hardest seats we have ever
felt in a Chrysler. But that's to keep us humble and to constantly remind us
of the current foreign decision makers at the former mighty Chrysler
Corporation of America!
Too bad it's so ugly. Fins would have been nice. It does lend itself well to
a full vinyl roof. And "wide whites" would really set it off.
Maybe it will become the first Hemi Pimpmobile from Chrysler.

Subject: Re: Chrysler 300 Hemi C 2005
I saw the 300C in person for the first time at the Detroit Auto Show last
month. My thought is that it is not as bad looking up close in person, as
it is in photographs. But then again, did you ever see a brand new car that
was not nice looking? They even smell good!
This car has a high beltline. Which means the window sills are even higher,
or the roof, in relation to the windows is proportionally lower. The net
effect being, the side window glass is not as tall as you might expect to
find on a modern day, full size car. I did not sit in the car, much less
drive it, so I don't know if driving safety is comprised for design sake.
The high beltline on the car reminds me of "Old Uncle High-water", who
pulled his pants up inches over his belly button, and then buckled his belt.
The design change itself - 2004 300M to 2005 300C - reminds me of the design
change from 1956 to 1957, quite a radical change. Only now, the change is
the other way around. The 2004 is a modern looking design, and the 2005
seems like a step backward in design.
As for Automatic Transmission versus Stick Shift Transmission - I haven't
wanted anything but an Automatic since the 426 Hemi's w/Automatic
Transmissions ruled the Dragstrips in the early 60's.
Regards,
Tom Barrett
