Jay, this is all covered in my 300C Handbook and you really shouldn't even
TOUCH the car without THE BOOK. :>) (I'm proud to be humble.)
Hood springs and hinges were painted body color because they were
installed prior to the paint line.
Oil fill tube and valley cover were of course already installed when the
motor was painted aluminum silver.
Then the BLACK oil cap was installed.
Wire wheels WERE NOT a factory approved accessory in '57 but dealers had
them in parts inventory and numerous '57 cars had them and the 15" tires
added at the dealerships. The repro wires, which have an incorrect spoke
count, have proven they have no safety issues over the years.

Thanks to Wayne G, David Z, and Owen & Jo G for the help on the inner
fender
color. All of you agreed. Next ? Are the hood springs and hinges the same
color as the car? My oil fill tube and cap are silver, same as the engine
color is this correct? I think the cap should be black? Also, I have a
chance to buy a set of never used repro Chrysler wire wheels. Were they a
factory or dealer option for the C ? Thanks again for all your help. I
hope
to have the C done by Christmas.

Subject: Power Steering Advice Needed!
Hi Everyone in Chrysler Land:
Got a 59E. When I turn to the left, I hear what appears to be a "hissing"
noise. No noise when I turn to the right. Also, when I first start the
engine
(and it's cold) the steering wheel sometimes turns automatically about
half a
turn to the left. There is plenty of power steering fluid in the
resovoir,
and supposedly the unit has been rebuilt! Any suggestions are GREATLY
appreciated. Thanks all!

when mama puts them in the dryer ! I'm not after the stuff that Gary of
Kalispell has nor that color for my application, I just need a supplier of
the stuff. HELP HELP HELP, Thanks in advance, Jerry

Hi 300 friends,
Has anyone any experience of "Classic Exhaust in Geneva Ohio". They have
offered me to make a new exhaustsystem for a C300. If you have any
experience, good or bad with the company, please let us know.
Thanks in advance,
Matts Wignell

OK, Folks - Here Goes.......
If the cover of the latest newsletter is any indication, I'm now
officially
famous. I'm as excited as Navin Johnson was when the new phone books
arrived in the movie "The Jerk." Now it's your turn to help us all help
ourselves in finding the ever dwindling sources of parts.
Please send the emails directly to me at this email address (not thru the
listserver) and with the subject heading listed above.
Feel free to include some comments on each yard that may help members weed
out which ones might help them in their particular search - such as "1960
and back cars only" or "does not pick or ship parts." Include as much
usable info as possible including hours of operation and exact location.
No yard is too small or too large. No yard is too close or too far.
As for your personal opinions about each establishment, I obviously can't
get into repeating any on the Directory itself - but I suppose it's OK if
you want to tell me "the guy's a nutcase" or "those dogs need a bath real
bad." Remember, because you don't get along with someone doesn't mean
that
no one else in the club will be able to crack the code of what makes these
most eccentric members of our society tick. The important thing is that
you
should include even the yards that you think are a total ripoff and not
worth your time. That same yard could land someone else in the club a
precious part that no one else has.
Also, please keep your emails to text only and don't send me any
attachments. This inbox fills up quickly due to the listserver.
I'll be compiling the list soon, so don't put it off !
Sean.

Hi Tom and All,
There is a valve on top of the steering box that has the supply and
return
lines coming out of it. It is adjustable, and is what is causing your
noise
and self steering. The service manual says you can adjust it while the car
is running, but if you loosen the 2 bolts up to much you will blow the
O-ring seals and spray oil everywhere. The best way is to do it with the
engine off and the front wheels off the ground. Move the valve one way of
the other, starting it up after moving and re-tightening. When there is no
more noise and the wheel doesn't move when it's started up, you are done.
Another one of those strange Chrysler "quirks"!
300ly,
Don

I HAVE PURCHASED AN
EXHAUST SYSTEM THROUGH CLASSIC. THEY KNOW THEIR EXHAUSTS & STAND BEHIND
THEIR
SYSTEMS. ALUMINIZED PIPES WITH STAINLESS MUFFLERS ARE BEST, LESS EXPANSION
&
CONTRACTION NOISE. STEVE ESTOK

Here is further information that I had posted in March 1991.
There are two "O" Rings under the valve-body on top part of the Steering
box. You should follow the directions in the shop manual on how to center
the valve-body and do not break off the ears on the valve-body when you
tighten it. The valve body mounting screws are tightened to 7 foot pounds.
The centering procedure is as follows: With the steering wheel in a
straight-ahead position, stop and start the engine several times, tapping
the valve body up or down until the steering wheel does not move when the
engine is started or stopped. then, the valve body is now centered.
Caution: When you first start up the engine, do not have your hands any
where near the steering wheel as it may turn violently in either direction
until the "valve body" is centered.
The "O" rings should be available from Chrysler under Part # 3879919.
Cost
about $8.00.( per Terry Lynch March 1991), Otherwise, you can get them
from a parts store. Make sure they are the correct size, or you may break
off the ears on the valve-body when you tighten it down.
