This is regarding our 1962 300 Sport Short Wheelbase I'm going to replace my upper & lower ball joints and the upper & lower control arm bushings. I know that it takes the smaller ball joints, but is that for the upper & lower? Are the control arm bushings the same? I assume that the listed NAPA parts on the club website will not work, as those are part number for an "H"? We have seen in our little town one pickup that rolled down a creek that looks like it has been through a crusher. There is a late model foreign SUV about 15 feet up in a tree in a creek bed near the center of town. We passed by one house that had lost two of its sides and a mobile home washed down a creek north of town. We have been marooned on our property numerous hours each day due to an impassable high water crossing and that creek only begins behind another neighbor's house! The national weather service says we are in "catastrophic" flooding conditions. The 8500 acre Canyon Lake about 60 miles from us has never been full in its 30 year history since they built the dam and the spillway is now pouring out over 40,000 cubic feet per second into swollen valleys below it. Our governor declared disaster areas yesterday and President Bush declared 29 counties federal disaster areas today. And it is still raining cats and dogs. Evacuations are all around us. Thankfully, I live on a hill some 350' of elevation above the city of Kerrville, and my cars are high and dry in the barn. I've experienced 3 days of straight rain in California 40 years ago where we totaled 13 inches in three days. No comparison to this. The animals in this area are lining up two by two hoping to be the pairs chosen... I know this wasn't car related but water-logged cabin fever is setting in and y'all are my friends! On that page is reference to the "Chrysler 500" and the "Model 613" mockup which most of us know as the original Exner concept for the 1957 Chrysler 300C. On page 36 there is a picture of the Chrysler 500 in Exner's driveway with an unfortunate reflection of a white picket fence all the way down the side of it! This is the first time I've ever seen or heard anything regarding the 613 car going past the mockup stage into a running, driving form. Virgil M. Exner, Jr. (Ex's son) who contributed heavily to the article doubts the car still exists or at least its whereabouts are unknown to him. I know the quality of the sleuths among us that have found many other cars that were thought no longer to exist! Does anyone have a lead on the 613 / 500 car? If it helps any, let me give you some facts about the rest of the car from Chrysler archive photos: the roofline appears to be that of a '57 Plymouth or Dodge 2dr hardtop, not the Chrysler / DeSoto roof. The entire front end is that of the first production '57 Chrysler 300Cs which had single headlights (may have been changed to duals). The only side trim was the 300 medallion ring mounted high on the rear quarter panel. The fins on this car are a very exaggerated version of the '57 Plymouth. It is expected that this car was built on a 300C chassis including drive train and suspension. The custom body work is all by Ghia of Italy. If the car is already in your garage or you have a lead on some dusty warehouse that holds it, I'd like to hear about it because of my extensive research on the 300Cs. I purchased 2 of them during the winter months from 2 separate vendors on E-bay. One was a Vulcan #DV-84 the other a Filko DP-184. Both were correct for the F and looked great! One was to be a replacement for the original non-working unit and the other to be a spare. Both went for over $100 each ( I know, I know...Yours truly is a fool) when shipping was figured in. I got the F out this week for the 1st time this year to get it ready for a Centennial parade tomorrow and installed one of the dash pots so I could finally, after all these years, get the thing fine tuned and running right only to discover that the new "nos" part would not hold vacuum. What a bummer!...a $107.99 bummer to be exact!! Dug out the 2nd unit and tested it with a vacuum tester and you guessed it, it was junk also. Boy, they sure do look nice though!! Should, for that kind of dough! Managed to contact the vendor of the 2nd unit I had bought on March 24 and gave him all the details and inquired as to whether he would consider a partial if not total refund. Waste of time, I figured and I wasn't disappointed in that expectation!! Oh well, it has been over 30 days and I have no record of the 1st seller any longer so it's been an expensive lesson hard learned for this ol' Iowa boy!! Any way, you can bet I will INSIST that any mechanical parts that I bid on from now on be tested by the seller and guaranteed and I will darn sure test again after receipt of the item. OK....I'll admit it, it's mostly my fault, but I'll bet I'm not the only one who has bought parts to stash them away as spares or for a future restoration!!! Does any one have any idea as to a way of repairing these? At one time John Lazenby offered a service to restore dist advance units. This would entail about the same procedure I would expect. In the meantime, any one out there want a cheap dash pot for your static display!!! Once burned, twice learned or something to that effect!! We put a kit on our 62 wagon and buying another for my 300. I can't imagine that the kit would not work for a '61. I love my disc brakes and the turn radius remained intact, which wasn't the case with a previous disc brake conversion. The guy who does it is: Roger Thomason 5424 S.E.Ramona St. Portland, Oregon 97206 aajbrakes@xxxxxxxxxxx is the email address. I love the way the kit worked on my wagon and looking forward to having the previous disc system removed from my 300 and get this really great set-up on. It is easy to install. My old 300C fuel line has a type of internal flare (sorry I don't know the correct name) on the pump end, should it have one on the tank end as well? Also how the heck do I put these in the new line, what sort of tool do I need and where can I get one? Been told it is similar to a "crox tool"(?) that they use in plumbing but would have to be much smaller for a 5/16 fuel line. Thanks in advance for the help.
