Jeff Carter of JC Auto Resto http://www.jcauto.com/ in Washington state
dropped me a note recalling that New York city's Chrysler parade phaeton
survived the '93 World Trade Center bombing (it was stored with motor pool
vehicles in one of the underground garages at the time), but he had not
heard anything regarding what may have happened to it on 9/11/2001.
The car is one of the originally '52 bodied cars that was updated with a
1956 appearance. The NY car was last known to be black with a gray
interior.
That brings up the following very interesting question: Where was NY's
Chrysler parade phaeton on 9/11/2001 ?
Is anyone aware of it having been used in any parade or other event in the
last year? Or have you heard anything of its current whereabouts?
Thanks,
Wayne Graefen

I just installed new inner & outer tie rods, with new adjusting sleeves.
Anyone know an approximate measurement of how much threads should show,
until I can get to an alignment shop?
Thanks,
Matt Allyn

Hi Matt and all
When you are doing a guesstimate on toe out you do not go by the amount of
threads. The rule of thumb I have used since I was a kid, (that was a long
time ago) you have the front of the tires 1/8" further apart than the
back.
This can be accomplished by jacking front of car, take an awl or other
sharp point, spin ea. tire and make a mark on the rubber near center.
Adjust rod end adjusters close to equal until the front set of lines on
tires are 1/8" further apart than back measurement. This should keep the
car tracking straight and not drifting side to side till you get to an
alignment shop. As kids that was it. Never went to alignment shop. Don't
recommend that as you need both caster and camber checked to do it right.

I saw a parade Phaeton at the Peterson Museum last
Feb. I believe it is and always was the LA car.

Subject: For Sale 300 and 300 B Intake and Carbs
I have had several requests from 300 owners regarding the sale of my
intake
number 1634285 and the corresponding dual four barrel carburetors.
PaddyCaddy
sent me an email and I sent one back and it was returned to me and did
not
go through. I need to contact him somehow. My phone number is
707-584-0658.
Here is the situation: I have had these items for over twenty years and
have
six photographs that I can send via email to those interested in them. I
do
not wish to sell them to the lowest bidder. If I do not get the most
reasonable price(high bid) for them from the 300 Club then I will sell
them
on ebay. Nothing against anyone, but I have spent plenty of money on parts
from the 300 owners around the country and have not complained. I needed
those parts. Most 300 letter car items are rare and seldom reproduced. I
understand that, but I also understand economics. Anyone interested, I
will
send them pictures and delineate any information that I can provide. The
purchase price is negotiable to an extent. Please feel free to email me
and I
will try to quickly respond. Quentin Smith

Wayne:
The LA car is still in LA -- owner by the City. The Detroit car is, I
believe
still owned by Detroit. The New York car was, as i remember owned by the
late
Paul Stern in PA. Last i remember it was owned by the Imperial Palace but
was
for sale at Auction this past April? Did it sell? Don't know...

Matt, if you are heading to the alignment shop soon anyway just center
your
steering wheel, jack up the car until the tires are almost off the ground,
eyeball the wheels straight(adjust by spinning the shaft), take a
measurement from the rear of the wheel rim from side to side, then from
the
same position at the front of the wheel rim. You want them to be roughly
the
same. This will get you down the road for an alignment without tearing
your
tires apart.
Sounds like you managed to finally get your ball-joint and center link
problems corrected!
