Hi Members,

I am looking for a set of exhaust manifolds from a 1963 or 1964 300,413.
It
is the swept back type or more specifically, the "tri y" type. If anyone
has
one or knows where one can be located please send me a e-mail or call
818-783-6846.

Thanks for all your help.

Ted and Louise

Its the simple things that hold me up..

On a '57-type generator, which terminal is which? (field v. armature) I
see no stampings and my service manual(s) show conflicting labels... They
just say "don't mix them up".

Many thanks.

ps.
C-convert may actually start, run, shift AND stop by Sunday night. Rain
clouds & limited mechanical skills- willing.

Michael.....
Don't forget to POLARIZE the genereator or you might end up with a dead
battery.

In addition to the big armature and the smaller field wire terminal, is
there a case ground also; a ground screw or a stud? On a lot of the
generator applications I remember, the two small wires (ground and field)
could in some cases get mixed up. And, that little ground wire is
important
. . . .

Ray and Group.......
It has been a few months since I last did this, but I believe the method I
used was to completely disconnect the generator from the voltage regulator
and attach a wire from the FIELD post on the generator to a good ground on
the block..... Then briefly (for a couple seconds) touch a wire from the
POSITIVE BATTERY POST to the ARM post on the generator. It only takes a
second or two. My reason for disconnecting the voltage regualtor is so no
damage can occur to that part. Disconnect the wire from the FIELD to the
block, reconnect the the voltage regulator to the generator and start the
engine and test for current output.

I believe this is correct...... anyone have anything to add or correct???

Good luck...
George

It's been so long since working on a generator-era car that although I
recall the term about polarizing the generator, I sure don't recall how to
do it. Would you mind sharing that with either the group or me
individually?

I thought I would pass this page on to our members. Since I don't know
how to break all these out, so I will let everybody take what they
want. There are web sights on how to decode your VIN numbers of
various makes of cars.

Not necessary to disconnect the regulator. Just have engine running
somewhat above idle and momentarily, at the regulator, short the BAT and
ARM terminals together. If doing it at the regulator isn't convenient,
just use a jumper wire from the battery to the ARM terminal on the
generator.
