Subject: heat risers
I don't believe the absence of a heat riser poses any problem, unless you
are driving regularly in the winter. In my case, I removed the heat riser
on my corvette several years ago (I installed headers) and the only
difference has been that it takes longer for the car to warm up. Fouled
plugs have not been a problem.
I am in the process of rebuilding the motor on my 300L, and intend to
remove the heat riser while retaining the stock exhaust manifolds. In
examining the manifold, it is obvious that the heat riser poses a
significant flow restriction. The engine rebuilder suggests its removal
might produce an additional 15 HP.
I do agree however, that if properly maintained, seizing of the heat riser
valve should not be an issue.

Subject: 300L Glove Box Trim
The glove box trim on my 300L is damaged. I have the opportunity to
purchase replacement used trim in good condition from a 1966 300, sight
unseen. Can anyone tell me if this trim would be the same? The seller
tells me the 1966 trim has a 300 emblem on it to the right of the lock but
my existing damaged trim has no such emblem. Am I missing an emblem or
does it represent a difference between the two models?

Mr. Lehman's 300E was on eBay and had a $25,000 reserve ... and it is my
understanding there were no bids. I am somewhat surprised as I have seen
photos and the car looks quite good.
Would anyone be willing to relate what they know about the car, if

I'm considering flying out to Texas to look at it and any information

be appreciated. Our correspondence - telephone and mail - has been fine
and
Mr. Lehman sounds like a stand-up person.

Around a couple of years ago, someone listed a 300E convertible at a
starting price of $50,000 (it sold at that price). He convinced ebay to
establish a new category for the 300E, besides the already existing 300
and
300M categories. Thus, when someone lists a 300M, they may elect to also
have the car in the 300E category. Believe it or not, some 300M owners
don't know what a 300E is. Or they figure that they will get more viewers
of their listing, and probably a higher price at the end of the auction.
Others who list older letter cars sometimes also decide to use the 300E
category rather than the more generic 300 category. I have seen quite a
few
older letter cars including 300Js etc. under the 300E category, with an
apology in the finer print that 300E was the only selection and that "it
is
not a 300E". Obviously, most people who have older letter car stuff to
sell
