Okay, Doug, let's actually do that. I didn't have time
to dig up 3-series stopping distances, they weren't on
the bmw website. So, here's a list I compiled and
posted before, comparing some 1961 and 1999 models.
They are pretty startling.
Stopping distances 60 to 0
1961 Models
>From April 1961 issue of Motor Life (all cars tested)
Olds Super 88 159 ft.
Olds F-85 171 ft.
Chrysler 300G 131 ft.
Daimler SP-250 194 ft. (disc brakes)
Dodge Dart D-500 120 ft.
1999 Models
>From July 1999 Road & Track (excerpts from "Road Test
Summary")
Ferrari 550 Maranello 112 ft.(shortest)
Dodge Neon 153 ft.
Honda Civic Si 167 ft.(longest)
Chrysler 300M 144 ft.
Volkswagen New Beetle 155ft.
Cheverolet Corvette Convertible 123 ft.
Okay, Doug, so there is actually doubt about it.
Braking distances have not changed really much at all,
especially since 1961 Chrysler technology.
Maybe your disc conversion won't fade, but I highly
doubt you can improve your 60 to 0 stopping distance.
If you're not a brake engineer, I beg you to talk to
one before you decide a couple little disc brake pads
will stop your very heavy car effectively.

should tell you about a new toy from JOHNNY LIGHTNING. It's the James
Bond 007 Goldfinger set. It's an action scene with James Bond, the
oriental guy who throws his hat like a lethal Frisbee, and a blond female.
James Bond is crouching behind his car, a silver 1964 Aston Martin,
pointing a gun at the oriental guy who is ready to launch his hat from
behind a black C-300. Mine cost $7.95 at a Target store.

If regular brakes are adjusted properly they should not lock up under
heavy
decelleration. That will give true stopping distance. I don't know about
you other guys but I'm not going to go so fast that I can't control my H
and
I'm not about to follow another vehicle so close that I have to slam on
the
brakes to keep from hitting them. I just make sure I have enough distance
between me and the other car so that I don't have to have a fender or hood
made.

of information in this book including a lot of specks and lots of pretty
pictues.It 78 pages of fun.The club might consider buying a bunch and
making
them available to members who have one of these cars.As prizes or to

bout 2 yrs ago now, i was peacefully going down the street, on
my full dress yamaha xs-1100, leaving a nice big hole in traffic to the
front of me, a 2 second hole in fact [they now recommend 3 seconds],
such a big hole, in fact, that a dips--- female felt obligated to fill
it with her own car as we were slowing down for a stoplight. she pulled
into position directly in front of me and about 10 ft in front with her
brakes already on hard,, there was nothing i could do but slam into her
at about [thankfully only] 15 mph. im not advocating following too
close, but not following too close also has its own dangers..... this
[my FIRST EVER accident!!] accident cost me 2 ribs and a collar bone,
all she had to say was, oh, im so sorry, i didnt see you there, it
really made me feel good!! since there was no cop there and the one that
did show up was female with a feminazi agenda and wouldnt believe any of
the witnesses, she walked with no tickets for ; 1 -no license 2 - no
insurance 3 - not her vehicle 4 - causing the accident. while lying in
the hospital, i got the ticket for following too close. i went to court
pro se with the witnesses and it was thrown out in the middle of the
first witnesses testimony.
had i been following closer id have been ahead of her and it
wouldnt have happened..
