Expert 5K+ Posts: 9922 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Found that I had a page on water pump repair in the 1946-59 Mopar Replacement Parts and Service Guide that I bought awhile ago. When I scanned and saved that page under EngineStuff/WaterPumps I discovered that I had previously found and saved a photo of one random Mopar water pump repair kit (1450 021). So I thought that I would check out in the 55-58 parts catalog pdf and then I figured I better share all this info. I also like the recent link to an old water pump thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=4110&p... Expert 5K+ Posts: 9922 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I was talking to my NOS guy this AM regarding water pump rebuild stuff for my 56 Dodge D500 water pump (1643 290 = all 315 water pumps in 1956 (but not the Coronet 270 poly V8)). I described the kit shown in the photo above and he told me that that kit was for an older pump with a grease fitting (the four holes in the bronze bushing and the Zerk fitting on the water pump housing). He said after that they went to sealed bearings and no grease fitting. For the 1956 Dodge 315 cu in V8s, the pump was 1643 290 and I *THINK* the repair kit was a 1752 436 but that might have been superceded to a 1843 447 kit. I can't find a photo of either kit. Looks like 1843 447 was the repair kit for the 58 Dodge (and Desoto Firesweep) water pumps too. Regardless, the listing of the contents of the repair kits is not very useful (see below) Edited by 56D500boy 2021-06-04 2:28 PM (56Dodge315V8WaterPumpAndRepairKitPNs.jpg) (WaterPumpRepairKitContents.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56Dodge315V8WaterPumpAndRepairKitPNs.jpg (125KB - 271 downloads) WaterPumpRepairKitContents.jpg (104KB - 282 downloads)

I can't find a photo of either kit. Ended up buying a 1643 292 water pump repair kit from Len Dawson's Deception Bay Mopar parts. Received it yesterday. Looks sort of right. I don't understand how the seal works. It is not tight to the shaft. The new shaft in the kit is loaded with two sealed bearings. My 56 Dodge FSM doesn't seem to know about this kit (just the older style pump with the Zerk grease fitting and bronze bushings) so I checked my 57 Dodge FSM (which I bought because of the D500 info it contains) and there is a repair procedure that would use the parts in the 1643 292 kit. Here is a photo of the kit contents, followed by the 57 Dodge water pump repair procedure: (1643292WaterPumpRepairKit.jpg) (57DodgeWaterPumpRepairInstructions_1.jpg) (57DodgeWaterPumpRepairInstructions_2.jpg) (57DodgeWaterPumpRepairInstructions_3.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1643292WaterPumpRepairKit.jpg (137KB - 269 downloads) 57DodgeWaterPumpRepairInstructions_1.jpg (223KB - 273 downloads) 57DodgeWaterPumpRepairInstructions_2.jpg (206KB - 263 downloads) 57DodgeWaterPumpRepairInstructions_3.jpg (188KB - 263 downloads)
