Someone in a prior post mentioned the larger 1960 Dodge Matador shared the same manual transmission as the 1960 Desoto. I've never seen images of either Dodge or Desoto with this option, I know that Chrysler offered a floor shift (I assume the same one) in their 1961-1964 models. Lesser dodges had a 3 speed on the column. Did the 1961 Desoto also offer a manual transmission? Anyone have pictures of a 1960 Desoto with a manual? Even the service manual for the car has almost no info on the manual transmission.

Any thoughts? I did some further research which mentioned a "heavy duty" 3 speed transmission in the 1961 Senior Dodge models, as well as the cross reference book 1950-1965 listing manual transmissions in the 1961 Desoto being the same as the 1961-1964 Chryslers. (no 1960 listed, despite the Motor Life magazine mentioning the 3 speed transmission, as well as the service manual giving a listing, but no diagram or pictures) The A745 was not apparently released until 1961? Doc Desoto reached out to chrysler historical and they said that apparently 3 manual transmission cars were built (back in the 80s or 90s he asked I think) according to another 0.01% of desotos were optioned, which would be 30 cars which seems about right. The transmission was special order only on the Fireflite model, and I don't think it was the same as the Dodge 3 speed on the column as the firewall was diferent for the senior dodges and the desoto vs the smaller Dart.

I can't speak to Dodge or Desoto or even 61 models but my 60 Plymouth With the HP 361 and manual 3 speed had the Borg Warner T-85 and a column shift.
I have seen several 61 Chryslers I believe Newports with the factory floor shift 3 speed.

#22 lists the manual cases for the 61 desoto, 61 chrysler, and the heavy duty 61 dodge and plymouth as interchangeable. Not sure if the T85 and A745 shared cases as their linkages were different

The T-85 and the A745 are completely different trans. One is made by Borg Warner and the other is made by Chrysler. They might be interchangeable as complete units but not sure about that.
